The Black Apples and The Warlocks performed at Spaceland on Saturday night. I got to shoot some promo shots for the Black Apples backstage and even checked out their after party in Silverlake...not a bad night. I really like both of these LA based bands. If you haven't seen them live then you are missing out! Check out the rest of the pics from this awesome show here.
Every third Saturday of the month, residents of the Santiago Street Lofts host the Santiago Art District--A community art walk event. Their website is www.santiagoartdistrict.com. Galleries open at 7PM and usually run until 10PM--and sometimes even later! I will be showing my photography in one of the galleries. Thanks to Ryan and Nate for inviting me to have my first solo show in Cali! Ample (free) parking is conveniently located across the street at the Santa Ana Train Depot on the southeast corner of Santa Ana Boulevard and Santiago Street...also, word on the street is that the Kogi truck will be making a cameo appearance as well, which I hear is kind of a big deal. You can follow them on Twitter @kogibbq or their website www.kogibbq.com! See ya there!
I rented a U-haul and drove it back to LA with my mom. We filled it up with furniture from my old apartments and road tripped back to Cali along Route 66. The northern route is so much better than taking the southern route on I-10. We saw mountains, snow and some beautiful scenic landscapes. It was great spending that time with my mom...we had some really deep spiritual conversations. She is like an angel on earth, such a wise and Godly woman. I wish I could see my family more often. My mom is an interior designer and the owner of Brickwood Antiques and Interiors in Temple, TX...needless to say, she fixed up my apartment real nice and I feel like a new man! Brea and I can't believe how much of a difference it has made in our quality of life. We have been in LA for almost 1year 1/2 and it finally feels like "home". Here's to a fresh start and the beginning of a great year!
Last week I had the chance to photograph Pasqual Bettio's Museum of ARTography and Assemblage in Hollywood. He is an amazing artist with an eclectic body of work. He has a series of "Hollywood Heads" that are strangely captivating and hauntingly beautiful. In one of his rooms he plastered old Hollywood posters onto the ceiling...I found the clowns and actors to be quite intriguing.
The new Fall 2008 issue of Resource Magazine just came out this week. I just shot a 17 page spread on the street artists in Venice called Venetian Beauties! It was an amazing time photographing those guys. The magazine is super cool. You can pick up a copy of the new issue at Barnes and Noble.
