New Orleans

I went to New Orleans last week to work on some new photo and film projects. It just so happened to be during Mardi Gras and the Superbowl. The French Quarter was packed with people. Bourbon Street was going crazy after the Saints won the Superbowl...everyone was yelling "Who Dat?!" I have family there, but it had been almost 7 years since my last visit. I quickly realized how much I missed New Orleans...it's easily one of my favorites cities in the US along with ATX, NYC & LA. It has an otherworldly, timeless feeling that I've only experienced in Venice, Italy during Carnival. The trip was hard at times, because the evidence of Katrina was still apparent everywhere you go, especially in New Orleans East and the Lower 9th Ward. It's hard to explain how heavy your heart feels when you drive through some of these places where Katrina struck so hard. This city and it's people have been through a lot of loss & suffering, many families, including mine, have been displaced. But I know there is a hope and a future for them. I plan on going back again very soon. You can see all the photos from my trip to New Orleans here!
