Transfuge Magazine

I was asked to shoot a portrait of Steve Erickson last month for Transfuge Magazine. He is an accomplished author and currently the film critic for Los Angeles Magazine as well as the editor of the literary journal Black Clock. Needless to say, he has quite an impressive resume and his experience definitely backs it up. So, when given the opportunity, I was more than happy to take his portrait for the French magazine. Here are a few images from our shoot...the first one is the one that was published as a two page spread in the new issue! Check it out here.

The Amor Fati

I was asked to take some sweet portraits for the Amor Fati Art & Literary Magazine's Communist Themed Party. The event was held at the super cool Historical Monument 157 in Los Angeles, CA. I was definitely interested in taking photos of the controversial themed party, especially considering there would be stylish period piece costumes to photograph. Plus, it was my first time to work with the new LA based magazine. My good friend and "The Young and the Restless" heartthrob, Wilson Bethel, is one of the founders of the magazine. Pick up a copy of this quarterly digest featuring the works of Los Angeles writers, artists, and creatives. You can see all the photos from my Amor Fati photoshoot here!

Coachella 2010

I just finished editing photos from an amazing weekend at the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, CA. It was my second year in a row to go there and cover the event. This year I was asked to shoot for the Do LaB, an amazing group of musicians, artists and performers who I camped with and documented during the whole festival. This year seemed to be more jam packed than last year. There was so many people that it was a little more difficult to get around from show to show, but the ones I saw were well worth the wait! Some of my favorite performances of the week were from The Dead Weather, Fever Ray, Beach House, Thom Yorke and Flea, Grizzly Bear, Les Claypool, Muse, Hot Chip, The xx and of course the Do LaB. You can see all my photos from the festival here! Long live Coachella ;)

SXSW 2010

I was asked to go on a roadtrip from LA to ATX to shoot the SXSW music festival for Redefine Magazine. Being from Texas and going to college at UT, it's always so nice to go back and visit my hometown, especially since I got access to photograph backstage and shoot video interviews for bands like Bear in Heaven, Metavari and dd/mm/yyyy.

Some of my other favorite performances were the Black Angels, Flying Lotus, The Blind Pets and of course Bone Thugs n Harmony. AOL even hired me to shoot their SXSW Soul Revue Concert at the Austin Music Hall, featuring Smokey Robinson. It was a great time and I can't wait for next year. Cash Only

I went on a "Cash Only: Diners, Dive Bars and Yard Sales" roadtrip from Los Angeles to Austin with Redefine Magazine. Our mission was to eat at the best diners, drink cheap beer, play pool at the best dive bars and scavange for lost treasure at local yard sales. We left LA on march 13 and arrived in ATX on March 17. We had an amazing time and even wrote a blog about it called Cash Only. Check it out for a detailed account of our amazing adventures.

Highlights of the trip include a pool party in Palm Springs, dead fish of the Salton Sea, camping in Yuma, an endless search for the Rodan Crater, Belgian Jennie's pizza and the Spirit Room in Jerome, late night dive bars in Albequerque, sand boarding on the dunes in White Sands and the ghost towns with "beautiful skies" of West Texas...Tim, Kevin and Vivian will always hold a special place in my heart. To see all my pictures from the roadtrip go here.
