Echo

I went to the ECHO, with my good friends the Duquettes, to see Alexandra Hope perform songs from her new album Invisible Sunday. When we arrived there was free pizza from Two Boots Pizza downstairs, so we settled in and grabbed a drink before the show started. Alexandra plays electric guitar and lead vocals, backed up only by the drums. The result is a minimalist yet surprisingly powerful sound. She's one of my new favorites on the LA scene for sure! I ended up buying her record next door at one of the coolest record stores in LA, called Origami. The photo on her album cover is a beautiful portrait of her taken by my friend and NYC photographer, Bek Andersen. A band called Gliss played shortly after Alexandra's set. I had never heard of Gliss before, but their sound was quite familiar. They reminded me a little of the Ravonettes and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but with a little more pop. They were really good and seemed to have quite the fan following. They switched instruments throughout their set and by the end of the night they each had played guitar, bass and drums for at least two songs.

Edison

I went to see the new Wednesday Night Show, Incandescence, at the Edison in downtown LA. The amazing venue is transformed and seems to have an other worldy and timeless spirit. The show is a cabaret, burlesque and circus performance that takes place in different spaces and stages at the Edison. There are aerial performers, belly dancers with snakes, acrobats, jugglers and amazing wardrobe and costumes provided by Douglas Little and the Duquettes. It's a lot of fun and definitely worth a look! To see more of the photos click here!
